Trying to start this entry about our day at Vincent’s check up yesterday is a pain, so my telling you it’s a pain to find a starting sentence or paragraph is your starting point! If you didn’t get it, yesterday we had our 36 week checkup on Vincent. This is one appointment we had been waiting for because our last one at 34 weeks the doctor thought he was still breech, so this was the one where if he thought the same way we would get an ultrasound.
At first as the Doctor pressed near my rib cage he felt a foot and thought he was feeling a soft chin near my pubic bone. As he continued his exam he’s like “Nope definitely a butt. We’ll get you into ultrasound to double check.”. Thus after finishing up I was whisked away to ultrasound for those confirming pictures that yes our baby Luma is breech and that yes, the doctor was feeling a foot up by my ribcage, making him something termed “frank breech“.
Our ultrasound tech was awesome because she decided to let our doctor sweat a little so that we could get some facetime with Vincent. We all had a nice laugh as you will see below, Vincent is an acrobat who sucks his toes! I have to admit that it’s pretty funny because our last ultrasound at 21 weeks showed that Vincent was sucking his thumb. He ALWAYS has things up by his face and near his mouth. Apparently it’s a sign of intelligence. It’s pretty funny.
So what do we do now that he’s still breech? We were given the option to wait until I go into natural labor to see if he’d flip on his own, plan a c-section for 39-40 weeks, or have the Doctor try to flip him once we hit full term next week. After a quick discussion about how long his legs were and how he’s probably eating pizza in there all comfortable as can be, we decided that we’d go ahead and have the Doctor play wrestle-mania with my stomach and try to flip him.
Of course there are no guarantees that it will work and there are some risks such as inducing labor, separating the placenta from the uterus wall, distress, etc. but it’s something that we decided to go with. I’d want to at least attempt for him to flip around so that I can possibly have a vaginal birth. If I do happen to go into labor or have any other huge complications then obviously I’ll be having a c-section on leap year day. If Vincent doesn’t flip then we’ll wait until I go into natural labor and take it from there to see what happens. It’s hard to imagine that there is a chance that this week may be the last week I’m pregnant if something happens.
I’m excited to see what next Wednesday brings. Not just because of the attempt to flip Vincent, but because of the oddness. The number 7 has been on my mind a lot recently. I’m not sure if it’s because it’s my lucky number or what. Last month I had a tarot reading done by a girl on a message board I frequent. Something she mentioned was that she sensed the little one may be born a bit early due to the cards she drew. Combine this with the fact that I’ll be 37 weeks and our appointment was by chance at 7AM and it’s kinda like “Whoa”. Of course it could be nothing but an overactive brain, but I find it interesting none the less.

I didn’t forget to do one of these last week. I was just off enjoying our babymoon so much that I just didn’t bother. One week, two weeks, or even for the rest of the weeks missing won’t matter. Gotta enjoy myself first!
