Vincent is watching his animals go by as he sits in his swing. He adores the zebra which is why I point it out the most because I adore the smiles he has. If you listen careful you can hear a couple of his coos. He is growing to fast. *sad panda*

I bring this up because a lot of people have asked me what Vincent needs. Surly he must NEED something. Diapers, onesies, a shot of espresso… and when I say no, he does not NEED anything they become offended. Pushy even. It baffles them that he is not in need of anything. That we’re such baddass parents that we have it handled.

Yes, the offer is nice and very appreciated. After all diapers and formula are our top expenses and quite expensive, but is he in need of them? No. Not to mention that we’re apparently picky and “stupid” because the times we mentioned what it was they could get us by name they proceeded to tell us how much cheaper we could get it if we went generic or bought this brand from the dollar store. We are fortunate enough to be able to afford to buy the brand that we desire.

Moving on, the offers are nice but the pushy offendedness is not. The hillarious part of all of this is when I bring up, “Well you can donate to his college fund instead.” there is a sudden “Oh I can’t afford that!” or general feeling in the air that I’m going to take the money and spend it on strippers or something. I have my own money for that.

I’m not asking for tens of thousands of dollars, just any money you would have spent on something he doesn’t NEED could go toward something he will hopefully need in the future. *sigh and shake head* People.

His two month appointment went great! He weighed in at 9lbs 14oz which means he’s gained almost 4lbs¹ since birth (6lbs 4oz). He gained 3″ and is now 21″ long, almost two feet! This kid is growing too fast. He either needs to stop or else we’re taking him back. *crosses arms* Apparently he’s also brilliant because his head is 40.5cms around and growing greatly. I’d give you percentiles but I forgot what they are :( So I’ll call in the morning to find them out yet again. I was too busy being happy that he was growing so well, holding his head up for her, banging out a push-up when she laid him on his tummy, and looking at me when I talked.

Here I was worried for nothing that he wasn’t meeting milestones. Spsh. This little guy is starting to crack smiles, coo, hold himself up with his legs when helped, and do all the things he’s supposed to be doing. I’d like to enroll him in karate now with as strong as his kicks are.

GO VINCENT GO!

Then the looming shadow happened. If you’re pro-vaccination like me you know what the two month well baby check means. In my case it meant holding Vincent close to me while they jabbed both his legs at the same time, him screaming bloody murder, bursting into the tears he suddenly developed this month, crying, me crying, and repeating this process as they jabbed his leg for a third time to deliver the vaccinations. When it was all said and done the only thing I could do was hold him close to me and try to comfort him. Of course I felt bad for him but it’s for his own good. Poor guy.

That was the majority of our day to be repeated two months from now. Vincent has been dealing like a champ so far, a bit cranky, but a champ none the less.

So in response I thank her and told her I have a black thumb and just can’t keep anything alive while rolling my eyes. If she wants to water my lawn for me, fine. One less area for me to do myself.

Oh the joys of small town living I suppose.

The first week I was home after having Vincent I wasn’t on the computer at all and it felt great. I was less anxious and sort of happy with how I was spending my time so last week, a few days ago, honestly I don’t know as time tends to escape me, I decided to disconnect from the huge social aspect of the internet.

First it started with Twitter. Rarely did I interact with people I was following and I found myself rolling my eyes more and more at all the micro-updates into peoples lives. Nothing said was engaging me or worth the time I was wasting. I didn’t like the person I was being while reading the updates, so while I haven’t deleted my twitter I’ve stepped away from it.

Then came the big step…Facebook. Deactivating my Facebook was a hard step because I love sharing all the photos and videos of my life and family. At first I went through my 80+ friends and removed anyone who’s updates I scrolled past or never talked to and found that my feed quieted a ton. Doing this also left me with 16 friends, half of which were either family or people who have my cellphone number or MSN to get a hold of me with. After taking an hour to think about it I decided that it wasn’t worth it. I shouldn’t feel like I have to have a Facebook or deal with the anxiety that comes with dealing with people would have been offended once I culled my list so I got rid of it .

I’ve felt pretty good since doing those two simple things. My mind is quieter and I feel like I’m a better person because I’m no longer stalking people and judging them (we all do it). It gives me more time to focus on myself, my happiness, my family, adjusting to this new life as a mother, and finding out what it is I enjoy outside of the computer.

Some people quickly noticed my absence and e-mailed me. It makes me feel a little bad that I’ve worried some people whom I didn’t think would care so that is what has prompted me to write this entry. I’m not completely offline or disconnected but taking a step away from social media and thus a big social community has felt great and is a necessary step in keeping my sanity.
