I don’t know what I’d do without our furkids. They are just awesome.

Jeremy set up a kitty spy cam so we could see what our minions Stryker and Kitana were up to while we slept. This morning we found one of my computer cords across the room. We now know why :P

For the past couple months now Jeremy and I have been discussing getting another dog so that Leo would have someone to play with. Sometime during this conversation he asked me if I’d rather have a dog or a cat as he only wanted one more pet. I love cats but have three right now who are permanent residents of our parents.  So I went with dog as my choice.

Last Sunday Jeremy called me from work with a question. “Hey Babe, I know this is kinda sudden but what would you think about getting a kitten?” Of course I was shocked and told him I wouldn’t mind but did he want a kitten? So he told me how he thought this black one he caught outside while doing rounds at work was ours. I knew that there was no way I could say no, especially if he was calling ME to ask about keeping him.

So like a good wife I drove into town to pick up this new black kitty that Jeremy raved about. However I was in for a big surprise when I got there. With a box in hand Jeremy came out to the car and said, “Be careful one of them keeps trying to escape.” My mind instantly caught the word “them”. How many kittens did he have in the box?!  Turns out he caught another one of the six he saw. Apparently this new addition tried to take his hand off and he was unsure about keeping her but he’d deal with what to do when he got home.

After spending time with both the kittens the feisty stripped one calmed down some while the black one remained passive. At first my anxiety about change kicked in hardcore. I shook some and began to freak out. Then I started reading about toxoplasmosis and how if I passed it along to Luma what it could do. Dr. Google in this moment was NOT helpful. Luckily for me I have an awesome Husband who called my doctor’s office for me because I was just a mess. The nurse confirmed that I should be fine as long as he changed the litter boxes and we got them up to date on shots.

Yesterday we had a Luma check up (which went awesomely!) and my OBGYN also confirmed that I’d be fine as long as I wasn’t eating the feces. He also mentioned the risk is quite low and that it’s something that’s just been carried over in the medical world for years now but they rarely see cases. This news made me feel better and less anxious about keeping the kittens.

The kittens…the kittens…man we can’t just keep calling them “the kittens”, “yours”, “the black one”, “the bitchy one”, no they need proper names to go with their new collars as they are now going to be a part of our home! I chose to name the striped one Artemis after the greek goddess of the hunt. She just looks wise and cute to me, plus she’s a bit feisty. Since the black one was Jeremy’s first choice kitty he got to name him. The black one is now Stryker from Mortal Kombat.

Today however threw me a problem. Last night Jeremy told me how he originally was going to name Artemis, Kitana who is my favorite character from Mortal Kombat. Each time I turned to talk to her I started her name as “Kit…” and have to correct myself to say Artemis. Apparently Kitana just sticks better for me. So now we have a Kitana and Stryker from Mortal Kombat kitties.

Leo seems to be doing fine with them but Stryker hisses at him any chance he gets. He’ll warm up eventually. Now I just have to keep Leo out of their food dish.

So much for just having “one more animal” eh? Jeremy said yesterday that we didn’t have to keep them and we could get rid of them if I wanted. What a silly boy. I know there is no way we can get rid of them now. They are apart of the Awesomesauce family with attitudes to match.

Hello! My name is Dez and I just happen to be your not so average twenty-three year old gamer geek girl. I'm married to an equally geeky husband, Jeremy.

I'm also a mother who's trying to find out who she is while not losing herself completely in motherhood. A lover of video games (obviously), not blowing up my kitchen in an attempt to be a chef, and a pretend photographer. Learn more about me!
